Hotel reputation management in AI answers: what assistants say when nobody types your name
Your review score is no longer the whole of your reputation. What an assistant replies when a traveller asks for a hotel like yours is, and it changes from one surface to the next.
AI sessions measured across the sites we track, last 30 days.
Quick answer
Reputation in AI answers is what an assistant replies when a traveller describes the hotel they want and never types your name. It is not your review score and it is not the same on every surface. In our own measurement pass of 3 and 4 September 2026, 285 measurements built from 57 approved questions on 5 answer surfaces across 7 domains, the property appeared in the answer 77 times, and the hit rate ran from 10 of 57 on ChatGPT to 22 of 57 on Perplexity.
That spread is the point. A hotel that checks one assistant and calls it its reputation is reading a fifth of the evidence.
What reputation means when a model writes the answer
A review site gives you a number between 1 and 10. An answer engine gives you something else: either your name is in the reply or it is not, and if it is, it sits somewhere in a list, in a tone, next to other properties, backed by sources the model chose to trust.
So the measurement has four layers instead of one. Whether the property is named. Whether it is cited, meaning the answer points at your own website rather than at a directory. Where it sits inside the answer. And how it is framed, including whether the assistant recommended it outright.
In the pass of 3 and 4 September 2026, 77 of the 285 measurements showed the domain being measured inside the answer, across 7 domains of our own travel network and not one hotel, and all 77 carry the position, the tone, the recommendation flag and the list of sources the answer cited. The other 208 are the more useful half: those are the questions where a traveller with buying intent was answered without you.
A reputation panel you cannot audit can be lying to you
On 3 September 2026 our own Gemini readings came back 57 out of 57 as not mentioned. A clean, complete, catastrophic zero. It was false. The bug was in how our code read the response, not in what Gemini answered, and once it was fixed the same 57 questions on the same model returned 15 visible and 15 cited on 4 September, one day later.
Nothing crashed. No log recorded an error. The panel returned a number that was plausible, and a plausible number is exactly what nobody checks. That is the reason a reputation product has to hand you the raw material: the response text is stored for every measurement, so a zero can be opened and read instead of believed.
The rule we run on since then is short. A closed zero is a measurement suspicion first and a business conclusion second. Before you tell a board that AI assistants ignore your hotel, check that the reading is real.
How reporte.ai measures it
The same approved questions run on 5 answer surfaces, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Mode, so a surface that improves and a surface that drops are visible separately. The last pass completed 285 of 285 measurements with 0 errors.
Each reading stores the answer text, the sources it cited and, when the property appears, its position and tone. The series behind the figures on this page started on 6 August 2026 and holds 966 readings, because a single reading proves nothing and reputation only makes sense as a series. You can see the mechanics in prompt analysis, and the traffic that follows a mention in AI traffic tracking.
What this is not
It is not review management. reporte.ai does not write, reply to or moderate a single review on Google, Booking.com or TripAdvisor, and it cannot remove anything from an assistant. It measures the answer, tells you where you are absent and shows the pages the assistants cite instead of yours, which is where the work actually is. If your problem is the review inbox, you need a different tool and we will say so.
No. reporte.ai does not write, reply to or moderate a single review on Google, Booking.com or TripAdvisor. It measures the 5 answer surfaces where a traveller describes the hotel they want without naming one.
As many as the property approves. The pass of 3 and 4 September 2026 ran 57 approved questions on 5 surfaces for 7 domains, which is 285 measurements, and it finished with 0 errors.
Because each surface reads a different set of sources. In that same pass the same 57 questions surfaced the domain being measured 22 times on Perplexity, 16 on Claude, 15 on Gemini, 14 on Google AI Mode and 10 on ChatGPT. Those questions are spread across 7 domains of our own travel network rather than one property, so what the split describes is the surfaces.
Treat it as a measurement suspicion before a business conclusion. On 3 September 2026 our own Gemini readings came back 57 out of 57 as not mentioned, and that was a bug in how the response was read.
Yes. The response text is stored for every measurement, all 285 of the last pass included, so a zero can be opened and read instead of believed.
The position it holds inside the answer, the tone, whether it was an explicit recommendation and the sources the answer cited. In the last pass 77 of the 285 measurements showed the domain being measured, across 7 domains of our own travel network, and all 77 carry those fields.
As a series, not a photo. The series behind these figures started on 6 August 2026 and holds 966 readings, and a single reading proves nothing: one pass on one day cannot tell a real drop from a bad day.
